"ALTERED STATES: THE ETCHINGS OF RICHARD POUSETTE-DART" REVIEWED IN HYPERALLERGIC
An Abstract Expressionist Master of Etching
In contrast to other Abstract Expressionists, most notably Robert Motherwell, Richard Pousette-Dart saw prints as a beginning, a surface to work on. He goes over them with acrylic, gouache, and ink.

"ALTERED STATES: THE ETCHINGS OF RICHARD POUSETTE-DART" REVIEWED IN THE BROOKLYN RAIL
The Democracy of Touches: A New Reading of Richard Pousette-Dart
An extensive selection of seventeen paintings by Pousette-Dart is currently displayed at Pace; a second selection, of etchings made in a single year (between 1979 – 1980), is shown for the first time at Del Deo & Barzune. (Numerous paintings at Pace have not been seen since they were originally shown at Betty Parsons Gallery.) The two exhibits also evoke the artist’s memorable fifty-year survey at the Guggenheim Museum in 2007, which compelled me to look at his entire oeuvre in a new way.

"PAUL MOGENSEN: PAINTING" REVIEWED IN THE BROOKLYN RAIL
PAUL MOGENSEN Painting
The recent exhibition of Mogensen’s work at Del Deo & Barzune reunites paintings from the late 1960s and ’70s, along with one outlier from 2015. While at first glance the paintings appear to conform to a broadly Minimalist aesthetic, closer examination reveals a nuanced breed of modular abstraction based not on Donald Judd’s reign of seriality and symmetry, but rather on mathematical progressions and classical ratios.
